I’ll Never View Jesus The Same Way

Do you ever have one of those moments where you read a Scripture, sing a song or experience a sermon that completely changes your outlook on Jesus forever?  This past week’s sermon at Element Church was that way for me.

Several weeks ago, as I was doing research on Psalm 23, I was confronted with some insight on ancient shepherd’s and shepherding that completely changed how I view Jesus.

We just finished week number 3 of our sermon series called “Who Is Jesus?”  In this series, we are walking through Psalm 23 to help get the answer to that question.  So far we’ve seen Jesus as our Good Shepherd, our Guiding Shepherd and this past Sunday we saw Him as our Guarding Shepherd.  But we’ve got to view His guarding in the right way:

Jesus doesn’t guard us from all pain and problems, He guards us from their power over us.

To help illustrate the guarding we receive from Jesus, I talked through some ways that a Shepherd used his rod and staff with the sheep.  Psalm 23:4 says “Your rod and staff protect and comfort me.”  In this clip below, I share some things I learned about the shepherd’s rod that completely changed how I view Jesus, especially as it relates to walking through the valley of the shadow of death.
