If I only seek God but don’t surrender to His will I’ll be overwhelmed by suffering in this life.

This past Sunday at Element Church we talked about suffering as we continued our series called “Walk this Way”. In this series, I’ve been preaching from stories and passages in the Bible that I was able to see and experience while in Israel over the summer. This week, I preached from the prayer of Jesus to His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus is proof to me that no one is immune to suffering. Outside of the cross, there were numerous times in the life of Jesus that He faced suffering of various degrees. He grieved over Jerusalem rejecting His care, He wept over the loss of his friend Lazarus, He himself experienced hunger, pain, weakness and temptation. Jesus knows all about our suffering for He faced it all Himself.
Here in the Garden prayer, Jesus models for us what our response to suffering should be. He shows thus how our response to suffering is much more important than our protection from it. I preached from Matthew 26:36-46 and we asked the question, How should I respond to suffering?

In the following clip, I talk about our submission to the will of God. If I only seek God but don’t submit to His will then I’ll be overwhelmed by suffering in this life. You can watch full sermons HERE.
