I will finish what was started!
That is a Declaration of Truth I regularly say over my life, and it has been a vital one in my ministry at Element Church.
Life is hard. Ministry, like so many other professions, can be weary at times. Having an anchor truth like this has been so helpful during those seasons where you wonder, “Is this really what I should be doing?”
COVID hasn’t made life or our vocations any easier either.
Truth statements like these have become one of the key spiritual disciplines which help me replace the lies of the enemy with the Truth of God’s Word. Every one of my declarations is rooted in Scripture:
Acts 20:24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
Truth statements are much more than self-help or positive affirmations. Truth statements are just that…TRUTH!
Scripture tells us that the enemy is the father of lies. He uses those lies to distract us, derail us, and destroy us. The only way lies are defeated is by replacing them with Truth.
Say it! Believe it! Live it! I will finish what was started!
I leaned on this truth a lot in this final season at Element. As soon as we knew God was calling us to a new land and a new ministry, one of my primary prayers was that I would finish well.
Yes, there is more we could have done at Element, but God was drawing our time here to a close. I wanted to “finish what was started” with a sense of urgency and passion.
I hope and pray that I lived out this truth as we ended our time here. My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me. My assignment is coming to an end at Element and is beginning in a new land!
