If no one sees this purchase, would I still buy it?
I recently heard Rachel Cruze say that on the Carey Nieuwhof Leadership Podcast, and I said, “Wow!” out loud.
It’s one of the best questions I’ve ever heard in relation to a purchase. Especially in our American & comparison mindset.
What a GREAT question to filter anything I’m going to buy:
I might need a vehicle, but do I need THAT vehicle?
I might need some clothes, but do I need THOSE clothes.?
I might need a house, but do I need THAT house?
So often we buy things we don’t need to impress people we hardly know. We’ll even buy things we don’t need to impress people we don’t like. How crazy is that?
If I couldn’t post it on social media and if no other eyes were ever on it, would I still buy it?
Whether I need the item or not, this is a great question to ask.
Then Joe Sangl showed up at Element Church this last Sunday and presented four more questions to ask in relation to our money and our purchases or spending. These were amazing!
Will this prevent me from living generously?
Will this erode our financial margin?
Does this help us prepare for the future?
Will this maximize the use of each dollar?
If we start asking those questions, we will begin making much better financial choices.
