I wonder how many people think that statement? “My life doesn’t matter!” I’m not talking about suicidal thoughts, although that is obviously a legitimate problem. I’m talking about people who believe that their gift, their ability, their job, their role in life doesn’t matter.
So often, we believe that our worth is determined by our work. That what we do determines whether we matter in this life. With that mindset we end up pushing many roles in life and many jobs in the marketplace to the edges and view them as people or things that are less important.

But what if it’s not what we do that makes us matter but who we are? What if our worth is not determined by our work but by our worship, no matter what we do for work? I think sometimes we get so focused on what we do we forget who we are in Christ! Mattering in this life is so much more about who we belong to than what we do.

1 Peter 2:9 says, But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
If you believe in Jesus and you ever wonder if you matter you need to read that verse again and again. Who was Peter talking to? Everyone who believes! What does that mean for you? That you are chosen by God. You are royal priests. You are a holy nation. You are God’s very own possession. What what does that mean we can do? Show others the goodness of God. Is there anything more in life that matters than belonging to God and building His name up on the earth?
You don’t have to be a pastor to matter, you are a royal priest.
You don’t have to be chosen for the honors program, Varsity team, promotion, special position or by that special someone because you are chosen by God.
You don’t have to live in the right country you are a holy nation.
You don’t have to belong to the right club, political party or home owners association because you are God’s very own possession.
The next time you think your life doesn’t matter, just read 1 Peter 2:9. You matter because your master is Jesus!
