Here is a Declaration of Truth I say over my life.
Truth statements have become one of the key spiritual disciplines which help me replace the lies of the enemy with the Truth of God’s Word. Every one of my declarations is rooted in Scripture:
Truth = I won’t question God!
Notice, I didn’t say I won’t have questions for God. I have lots of those. At Element Church, we’re in the middle of a sermon series where we are talking about some of the biggest questions we have about God or for God.
I think we’ll always have questions. I don’t even think we’ll get all of our questions answered in eternity. So many people say, “I can’t wait to get to Heaven because then all our questions will be answered.”
Will they? If we had no more questions then we would be God. I actually believe we will be learning forever. Standing before God will cause us to have so many more questions. He is bigger than we can imagine, more good than we can comprehend, and more beautiful than we could ever describe. But I digress.
My truth is “I won’t question God.” By that I mean I won’t question what He does or doesn’t do. What He does or doesn’t allow. I might have questions, but I will not question Him. I might want to know why but I will not question who He is. He is God and I am not.
Job experienced this. After demanding an audience with God and declaring his questions of God, God responded.
Job 38:1-3 Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind: “Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.
Dang! “Brace yourself like a man!” That’s where I’d need to change pants.
After four chapters of God declaring his greatness, goodness, and Sovereignty to Job. This is Job’s response.
Job 42:1-3 “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
For me, I sum it up with this truth: I won’t question God!
Truth statements like these are much more than self-help or positive affirmations. Truth statements are just that…TRUTH!
Scripture tells us that the enemy is the father of lies. He uses those lies to distract us, derail us, and destroy us. The only way lies are defeated is by replacing them with Truth.
Say it! Believe it! Live it! I may have questions for God, but I won’t question God!
