Bible Memory Challenge

I want to invite you to a Bible memory challenge in 2020:

Psalm 119:11-16 says I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us. I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.

Here at Element Church, as a part of our 2020 vision as a staff, I am challenging us to memorize one verse of Scripture together each month. Each of the verses we memorize will be linked to one of our core values or a part of our vision statement. I would love for you to join us in this memory challenge.

Psalm 119 speaks to the power of “hiding” God’s Word in our hearts. David says that by hiding God’s Word in our hearts, it can give us power over sin and temptation. We see this example in the life of Jesus, as well.

Each time Jesus was tempted by satan, He responded with the Word of God. If Jesus used the Word of God, from memory, to combat sin and temptation, don’t you think we should too?

And don’t tell me you can’t memorize the Word. We can remember movie quotes and song lyrics at the drop of a hat. Heck, we can quote something a family member said to us ten years ago that we haven’t let go. The only reason we “can’t” memorize the Word is that we haven’t committed ourselves to do it. We don’t recite it aloud, study it, or reflect on it. It’s time for that to change.

The first verse we have committed ourselves to memorize is:

Galatians 1:10 10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

This connects perfectly with our core value of:

Obedience is our success: Our success will not be determined by the outcome but by our obedience to God.

If you’re looking for some helpful apps to assist you in your memorization, try “The Bible Memory App” or “Fighter Verse.” I use The Bible Memory App, and it has become an incredibly helpful tool for “hiding God’s Word in my heart.”

Will you join us on this memory challenge? Imagine the impact this could have on our church if we all put God’s Word in our hearts together! Let’s do this!
